Emily Barnett is a Decorative Artist, Designer and Hand Embroidery Specialist. Her work is influenced from a passion for historical design and the natural world. Craftsmanship is at the heart of her practice with an emphasis on precision, skill and a high attention to detail. Emily has gained a First Class (Hons) Degree in Hand Embroidery from The Royal School of Needlework, she has also won various awards including the The Worshipful Company of Broader's Associate Award at Hand and Lock The Prize 2023. Alongside taking private commissions, Emily has also had the opportunity to work for Sanderson, Fromental, Alexander McQueen and King Charles III Coronation.
This large scale embroidery commission was produced for a private client who required a bespoke embroidered statement piece to be displayed over their lounge fireplace. Emily was free to develop a design which once approved by her client was embroidered using crewel work blending in a wide pallet of colour.

The Chawton House Project is a collection of three bespoke Hand Embroidered Wall Panels that take inspiration from the rich history and grounds of Chawton House, an Elizabethan Manor House located in Chawton, Hampshire. Many traditional embroidery techniques have been carefully selected in each composition, including Goldwork, Raisedwork, Silk Shading and tonal Canvaswork. Natural materials such as Linen, Raffia and Parchment Paper features heavily throughout the collection.
This project was developed as part of Emily Barnett's graduate collection at the Royal School of Needlework. The project has received several awards including The Needlemakers Award, sponsorship from Madeira UK, The Royal School of Needlework's Raisedwork Award sponsored by the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers as well as The Worshipful Company of Borderers Associate Award at Hand and Lock The Prize 2023. The panels were also exhibited as part of Chawton House's summer exhibition 'Chawton in Stitches' running from May - August 2024.

A collection of Gift Cards and Prints developed in collaboration with Chawton House. These acrylic paintings take influence from the hand embroidered wall panels from the 'The Chawton House Project', which were the main feature in Chawton Houses' Summer 2024 Exhibition, 'Chawton in Stitches'. These were sold as official merchandise for the exhibition in Chawton Houses Gift Shop.
A playful collection of Hand Embroidered samples taking inspiration from plant life and patterns found in the natural world. This project brought together using many traditional Hand Embroidery techniques including Beading,Blackwork, Canvaswork, Crewelwork, Goldwork, Silk Shading and Whitework. These skills were worked alongside unconventional materials and techniques including Bin Bags, Hand Painting, Industrial Felt, Raffia and Repurposed Leather.

'Walkers are Welcome' Wall Hanging a commission for the Alton Walkers for the Walkers are Welcome National AGM 2022. The piece took inspiration from flora, history and architecture of Alton, a small rural market town in Hampshire. Hand Embroidery techniques used include Goldwork, Raisedwork and Silk Shading alongside delicately Hand Painted Silk.

Taking inspiration from deconstructing a circuit board, Circuits is a Hand Embroidered Wall Panel which looks to the abstract patterns and forms used in Modernist textile design. A contemporary colour palette and an experimental approach to traditional stitching has been used to bring this to a modern audience. Hand Embroidery techniques used include Applique, Beading, Blackwork and Goldwork. The Prototype was developed for The Bradford Textiles Society Design Competition 2021 and received a Commendation in the Embroidery Category.

Fromental
· Assisting with embroidery for dress used in the Harris Reed Fall 2024 London Fashion Week Show. This gown was also worn at the 2024 Oscars.
· Helping Fromental and Maddux Creative in felting, fabric manipulation and embroidery for installation pieces for WOW! House show house, which was exhibited at Chelsea Harbour in June 2023.
· Developed wallpaper sample ‘Rain’ used by Fromental at Paris Deco Off 2023.
Sanderson Design Group
· Developed designs and samples using hand embroidery for a fabric collection set to release in 2025.
King Charles III Coronation
· Contributed to the collective embroidery project by the Royal School of Needlework’s Embroidery Studio for the Anointing Screen used during the Coronation of King Charles III.
Cathryn Avison
· Assisted with Goldwork and beaded embellishments of costumes for the film production of Wicked.
Alexander McQueen
· Assisted with production of decorative tassels for a gown and accessories worn at the Peter Pan and Wendy World Premiere 2023.
· Assisted with preparation and batch creation of paper dolls as VIP gifts for clients inspired by the Anemone Autumn/Winter 2021 dress.
Ruup and Form
· Working with hand embroidery and beading for artist in residence, Beatrice Mayfield.
· Reclaim was site-specific installation inspired by Bargehouse, Oxo Tower Wharf, at Material Matters 2022 for London Design Festival.
